You glance about this section of the garden and smell the sweet fragrance of roses filling the air. The roses make a vivid sight, the bushes growing everywhere, some solitary, and others in big bunches. Some climbing up dark wooden trellis, some standing in bunches. Their colors varied.

"I see you've found my roses..they are so beautiful....did you know that each color has a different meaning in the language of love and relationships. Roses are the traditional gift of love are they not? Red roses are a beautiful gift to give one that you love. Though in medieval times to give the gift of a dozen red roses to your love would mean you but had on thing in mind. Though it was fine if your love shared your feelings. But if the relationship had yet to be consummated or if this was a relationship of a serious nature it was best to include at least one white rose as a symbol of purity and honorable intentions. A white rose should always be fresh when it is given for a white rose that has started to whither is a sign of melancholy. If you already had a physical bond you could have added a rose of a violet hue or lavender to show love at first sight or that you feel bewitched. Or you could have added a blossom with an orange tint to show that you art in awe. Also a blossom of a coral hue denotes desire."

"So many different things to know...there are colors for friendship ones for love...even ones that mean that you wish to end the romance and just be friends."...she hands you a small book with a satin ribbon in it marking a certain page. " If you wish to know more it is in here...read carefully for this is complex....each rose can mean a different thing when it is placed with a rose of another shade." she fades into a wisp of mist and disappears from view.

You open the book to the marked page and begin to read noticing that instead of being classified by color everything is classified by what they mean.

Friendship- Light pink and yellow (which also means jealousy) are best to give if thy intentions are but of congratulations or friendship. You can include one or both in a bouquet or in a bunch of mixed roses to say that you are no longer interested and to ask to be just friends.

Secrecy-Four red four white and four light pink say we must keep our love a secret. For a secret admirer the bouquet should be red, white, and lavender for love at first sight. Or red, white, orange or coral if you can think of nothing and no one else. Also you could put red, white, and yellow to give the person that you admire a clue....it means that you are a close friend.

Thanks- Dark pink, can be included with yellow, light pink, white or lavender to say thank you. You should never combine dark pink and red though...for that means you are thanking thy love for submitting to your advances.

Thorns-To have no thorns means that you are ungrateful....though most immortals would not object...any mortal from a decent family..(and from the medieval time period) would object. It would mean that you are but playing with thy loves fragile emotions.
